Pattee Canyon Beginner-Focused Event

We had a fantastic turnout for our first beginner-focused event, held at Pattee Canyon almost exactly two years after we had our very first event here in the fall of 2020! Lee Brown designed a wide range of excellent courses, including a Long Beginner course that targeted runners and other adult beginners, and an Intro course, which was used as part of the beginner instruction by our great crew of volunteers.

Over 20 beginners tried out orienteering today, and a number of them ended up doing multiple courses. Beginner instruction was provided by Garth Flint, Calvin Olson, Chris Caldwell, Jan Lauenstein, Jeremy Ditto, and Boris Granovskiy.  Lee, Jan, and Boris put out controls; Jeremy, Chris, Lee, and Allison Brown set up the event. Loy Koch, Eric Jones, Harvey Goldstein, Mox Anderson,  Chris, and Lee picked up controls. Allison ran the registration and timing. As usual, we could not have pulled off this event without our amazing volunteer team. If you'd like to help out at future events, let us know!

In addition to our volunteers, we'd like to thank our event sponsors Blackfoot Communications and the Loose Caboose, and our main club sponsor, Alpine Physical Therapy

Results are below. You can see the split times here.

You can also see some of the competitors' routes, and add your own routes, here.

A handful of photos by Boris Granovskiy, as well as course maps from the event are here. If you have cool photos from today's event, please add them to the album.

Up next is our first Flathead event of the season - Lone Pine on October 8, hosted by Harvey Goldstein. This will be a Score Orienteering event: choose your own adventure and decide which controls to visit, and in what order to visit them. Information about the event is here.
