Big Arm Pickup

Some great weather combined with a gorgeous new venue on the shores of Flathead Lake made for a spectacular day of orienteering! This was the premiere of the new map of Big Arm State Park by Will Dickinson, who also designed the courses for the event. The courses and map were well-received, and a number of folks had such a good time that they completed multiple courses! A fun feature of today's courses was the narrow tunnel under Route 93 that most courses crossed!

For the second event in a row, Missoula Youth Orienteering Program participant Tristin Anderson had the fastest time on the Advanced Beginner course. On the Advanced Course, Greg Friedman narrowly edged out Boris Granovskiy, while on the Intermediate course, Tivo Ruutopold finished first, ahead of Kim Mize.

We had a great group of volunteers today. Crystal Brown helped with registration and baked delicious orienteering-themed cookies; Harvey Goldstein helped with field checking the map; Jesse Nelson helped with beginner instruction; John Bissen, Boris Granovskiy, Greg Friedman, and Greg Balter helped with control pick up.

In addition to our volunteers, we'd like to thank our event sponsors Colter Coffee and Insty-Prints, and our main club sponsor, Alpine Physical Therapy. And thanks to the park ranger team at Big Arm for letting us use this beautiful venue!
