Big Arm State Park

The rainy weather that was in the forecast never materialized, and instead we had perfect early fall weather for this day on the shores of Flathead Lake. The Browne Family pulled out all the stops in organizing the event, including making gorgeous customized medals and baking sweet treats for the participants.

The Browne boys designed a long (8.9km!) Advanced course, but in the end only 39 seconds separated the winner - Ben Conley - from Boris Granovskiy in second place. On Intermediate, it was a battle between stars of GrizO's youth program, with Kelli Fry pulling ahead of Caroline Chitty for a 41-second win with just a few controls left. The Druyvestein family won the Beginner course on their first-ever outing and followed with a second place on Advanced Beginner, only behind Jeremy Ditto.

The Browne family (Kara, Liam, and Euell) did the lion's share of the work, designing the courses, putting out controls, beginner instruction, and running registration and download. Thank you to the Brownes for all their work!

Chris Caldwell, Calvin Olson, Kelli Fry, Kim Pincus helped with control pickup. Corree Streets helped with registration and download.

Up next is our perennial favorite: the Halloween Night Orienteering Event at the University of Montana Campus on Saturday, October 25.
